After major overhaul and modernisation, the machines were fitted with independent drives for spindle rotation, longitudinal and transverse feeds, and grinding heads. The machines are controlled by a computer and can be used to set a wide variety of longitudinal cross-sectional profiles. The profile is defined by a sequence of straight and curved sections, with a smooth or stepped transition, and by making annular protrusions or grooves on the roller surface. It is possible to set the profile by points.
