Shaft grinding: profile accuracy - process accuracy

The correct shape and surface of the roll is not just about aesthetics. It is a key technical parameter that affects print quality, glue application accuracy, rewind stability or clamping in the production process. At Dessa-NV LLC, we perform high-precision shaft grinding, including the formation of special profiles (bomb, saddle), which ensures optimal equipment performance.

🌀 Why shafts are ground

Grinding allows you to:

  • achieve the desired geometry (straight, bombing, saddle)
  • to obtain the specified roughness (Ra) for interaction with the material
  • eliminate runout, ovality, taper
  • restore the worn surface

🧭 Types of profiles we make

Profile

What is it for

Straight geometry

Standard shafts, even clamping

Bombsuration

Centres the material, prevents it from "running off"

Saddle (hyperbole)

For double film tensioning

Individual profile

Customised to the customer's requirements, e.g. with depths or grooves

We take into account not only the shape, but also the length, diameter, hardness of the coating, and type of load.

⚙️ Equipment and precision

  • Industrial CNC grinding machines
  • Accuracy - up to 0.01 mm in diameter
  • Shaft length up to 6000 mm, diameter up to 800 mm
  • Grinding rubber, polyurethane, metal

🎯 The importance of roughness

Depending on the process, the Ra parameter is set (0.2-3.2 µm):

  • For pressure shafts - Ra is lower, closer to the mirror
  • For drive shafts - higher Ra for better grip
  • Special microtexture for applying adhesives or paints

🔁 Grinding as part of regeneration

In addition to the new shafts, we:

  • grinding after curing
  • Restore old shafts with deformed surfaces
  • change the profile or adjust it to the new equipment

Why grinding at Dessa-NV is about precision without compromise

  • Own equipment + experienced specialists
  • Grinding to a high gloss or specified Ra
  • Individual approach to each shaft
  • Runout and balance control after machining
